The area in and around Morrisville is rich in history from the Revolutionary War era. Summerseat was a private estate that served as headquarters for General George Washington and his army during the months leading up to the historic Battle of Trenton. It is a Georgian-style mansion typical of architecture seen in the mid-1700s. It was once owned by Robert Morris and George Clymer, who were both signers of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Pennsbury Manor was the home of William Penn who was the founder and first governor of Pennsylvania. The manor was rebuilt in 1968 and is currently managed by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
