About Yardley, PA - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
The borough of Yardley, population approximately 2,400, is located on the banks of the Delaware River about six miles from Trenton, New Jersey. It was founded in 1681 by William Yardley, a minister and Quaker immigrant from England. Yardley was one of the communities that served as an escape route for slaves in conjunction with the Underground Railroad during the American Civil War. William Yardley’s home, known as Lakeside, is located on the banks of Lake Afton and was purported to be one of the houses in the area that was known to hide slaves running for freedom.
Yardley’s historic district is made up of an assemblage of over two hundred structures from the mid to late 19th century. The majority of buildings in the historic district are located along South Main Street and on Canal Street.
U. S. Post Office located on Main Street is an excellent example of early 20th century buildings done in the Colonial Revival style. Saint Andrews Episcopal Church, built in 1890, exemplifies the Carpenter Gothic-style architecture common in the late 19th century.
Yardley is home to the Garden of Reflection 9-11 Memorial, a unique park created by community members in honor of love ones lost to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Funding for the park’s development and maintenance is handled strictly through the generous donations of businesses and individuals from all over the world.
